Farewell: Take That, Germany!

I had my last improv show last night with my troupe Take That, Germany! I was really sad that my LA improv days are now over. The show took place at the Westside Eclectic Comedy in Santa Monica, where I first started taking classes a year and a half ago. Before I started doing improv I was not very happy in LA, feeling pretty creatively stifled without an outlet for myself. But after discovering the WE from my friend Vanesssa, who worked at the theater at the time, in October 2006, I started having fun again and enjoying the diversity and opportunities to do new things that LA has to offer. I performed with the group Thrifty Therapy/They Might be Jews/Two Cups of Juice from July 07 through November 08 and it was all right. I was glad I was performing at least twice a month, but it was tough being on the team because its members didn't naturally mesh well together. But in December 08 I joined a brand new team called MARF (it stands for whatever you want it to stand for) and was excited about the possibilities of this group because we meshed a little better and got along a little more naturally. However, after some internal drama with a few members flaking out and coaches coming going, MARF was no more. But four of us, Tim Fescoe, Jesse Nicholas, Daniel Weiss, and myself stuck together, added Graham Beckett and Joel Anderson and reformed as Take That, Germany! (named after an almost-line in a rehearsal scene where the suggestion was "tyranny"). After a couple different coaches we're currently under that awesome tutelage of Joe Donatelli, who writes his own online column, joedonatellicolumn.com, and also performs on the improv team Pangea.

Anyways, I couldn't have asked for a better way to go out then last night. We came together as a team, backing each other up and bringing all the craziness that is us together in semi-cohesive onslaught of fun. I will really miss those guys, and am sad I haven't had more time with them as a group and as friends. I know they will continue performing and be awesome, I just wish I could be there, too. But we don't always get what we wish for. But sometimes we get what we dream for, which is going to a pretty good school for photography, which is what I'll be doing in a month. So while every good things must end, many more good things will follow.
