real men watch HGTV

That's right, my new favorite channel is the Home and Garden Television Channel (www.HGTV.com). And I'm not afraid to admit it. It's so awesome to see all the cool things you can do in your big home or little tiny apartment, for lots of money and for little tiny bits of money. Someday I hope to own my own home and when I do it's gonna look pretty awesome. But until then I gotta stock up on ideas, and what better way to do that than on television. It's free education (except for those who pay to get cable on which HGTV exists; by some fluke my apartment gets it for free), and if I'm gonna sit on my butt and watch TV I might as well get educated at the same time. It also helps me in my job as a house painter/handyman because if a client asks some interior design question, I may now have a 5% chance of making a real-life comment that makes sense. So far my favorite show is Look What I Did, where they show what people did themselves in their home. Some of it's pretty crazy and you need to be a master carpenter or skilled craftsman to do it, but a lot of it most anyone can do, and someday I want to do something awesome too. Another good show is Design on a Dime, where you see how much you can do to a room with a limited budget. Last night my roomate Jeremiah and I watched 24 Hour Design, where they redesign an entire room in 24 hours. In this particular episode the designers reworked these two girls' living room by painting the walls, building cool shelf thing, getting new furniture and rearanging everything. I didn't really with the colors and things, but I liked the shelf they built and maybe someday i'll get to build a cool shelf myself. So yeah, that is my new current obsesion, and if you get HGTV, check it out, and if you don't like it, well, that's okay, I will still like you and HGTV. The end.

The big hole

This past weekend Sara and I travelled to the Grand Canyon in celebration of dating for four years. Yes. Not a typo. Four. To continue, we left Friday, Jan. 12 at about noon, and what should've been a seven hour drive ended up being nine and a half hours because we encountered a little bit of snow in Arizona, and I feel like most people around there don't know how to drive in snow. As a result we saw no less than five overturned vehicles, including a horse trailer, leaving two extremely freaked out horses in the middle of the road. It took three people to move one horse off the road and to tie them to a fence. After the horse incident the road cleared up for a little while, but about 40 miles from Flagstaff, AZ the snow picked up again, and we were back down to a crawl. Once in Flagstaff there was snow everywhere, on the ground and swirling around us. We finally made it to our hotel in Flagstaff about 10:30 at night. Luckily, despite the late hour and the snowing, we found an open restaurant across the street at Buffalo Wild Wings. So we got some wings and fries and beer to soothe my soul, and then called it a night.

Saturday was the day to visit the Grand Canyon. The streets of Flagstaff were still all snowed over, but we made our way out slowly and surely, and eventually got to the canyon around noon. There isn't any other way to describe the Grand Canyon other than it's a really big hole. It was pretty cold there, so we just walked around for a little while and drove to different parts, then called it a day so we could drive back before dark. Lucky we did cuz back in Flagstaff it was snowing again! We braved the fury and headed to the Olive Garden, where apparently everyone was that night, because we had to wait forever for a table. But it was worth it because after you look at a gigantic hole in the ground all day, you work yourself up an appetite. by the time we finished with dinner, it had snowed 3-4 more inches. It was so good to see snow again. It made me want to live somewhere where it snows every winter. So I will someday, but until then I'll just remember Flagstaff and the wintery wonderland that it was.

Nothing really exciting happened Sunday, except for driving home I ran over a pack of baloons floating across the highway. That was fun. Except for the big popping sound underneath the car. That wasn't fun. Okay, I'm done. I should be fired from blog writing. I need to do some good (writing).

So this is the New Year...

...and I don't feel any different. But I want to feel different, so I'm gonna make a list of goals for 2007. My New Years Resolution or whatever is to try to accomplish as many of these goals as possible. Most of these goals pertain to what I'm going to do with my life and trying to make it a good one. Which is good. I hope I don't waste my life away forever.

2006 wasn't a horrible year. It was better than 2003. It may not have been as good as 2005, though. I'm kind of scared of 2007, I'm not sure why. The number seven has always brought up some kind of fear inside of me and I'm not sure why. I'm not a big fan of odd numbers in general, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm sorry this is kind of a lame post, but I wanted to put up something here cuz I haven't for a while, and I didn't want people to think I hated them, or that I was lazy, which the latter might be a little truer than the former. But never fear, a lengthy report of my Holidays is being written kind of right now (not exactly right now because I can't right both at the same time) and will be up very soon. whoa. So hold on to your hats and enjoy January and whatever sort of new year it's shaping up to be for you. Hopefully a good one. We all need a good year every now and then.
